On 01.09.2021 (Wednesday), the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering conducted a webinar on LabVIEW Real world problem and its applications by inviting Dr. H. Chelladurai, Professor, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur. On the day of the event, a total of 78 students participated in the event to know about the uses of Labview in interfacing with the real world to solve real-time problems.
Dr. H. Chelladurai is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur. He completed his Doctorate in IIT Kanpur in the year 2009.
With experience in Condition Monitoring, Virtual Instrumentation and Artificial Neural Networks, the session started with the Introduction on the need for measurement and followed with the below-mentioned content.
- Need for measurement and the various types of measurement (i.e) to generate Design parameters, commerce and to generate data to validate.
- Explained with the various types of measurements that include (i) Primary Quantity (ii) Derived Quantity (iii) Probe of intrusive method and (iv) Non-intrusive method. Out of the above-mentioned methods, the non-intrusive method is the costliest and it can measure all the parameters needed for designing.
- General Measurement Scheme
- After giving a brief introduction about measurements and their need, the introduction of Virtual Instrumentation and its interaction with MatLab and other programming software was explained.
- Interaction of hardware with software gives a huge insight on tracking the components used in the hardware and replacing that if needed to improve the performance. This will also help in finding the defects in the hardware.
- After giving an insight into virtual instrumentation, Labview was introduced, mentioned its advantage.
- Hands on approach in providing instructions on how to use graphical coding using Matlab.
- He gave an overview of the real world problem scenario in measuring the temperature using RTD and Thermistor, and how to interface with the system. Also by distinguishing the parameters between various temperature sensors, all the entities were explained. This will be very helpful to the students in choosing the right temperature sensor and also gained knowledge on what parameters to be checked while selecting a sensor while doing their minor and major projects.
- The session was concluded by showing a real-time implication of interfacing LabVIEW with hardware in his laboratory and showed various graphs obtained from different node points in LabVIEW.
