The annual intra-college cultural extravaganza – Stringz – is an event that all students on the Ramapuram Campus look forward to.
Various off-stage events such as wall painting, glass painting, pot decoration, cooking, mehendi, rangoli, treasure hunt, short film making, etc. are conducted and a dance program and fashion show are part of the final day’s events.
Stringz 2015 – A Report
STRINGZ ’15, the cultural festival at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University), Ramapuram was organized in the Open Air Theatre on 7th March 2015. It filled the SRM ambience with gala and gaiety. The fest is organized every year to provide a platform to showcase the unexplored talents of the students. Four Houses- AAKASH, AGNI, PRUTHVI and TRISHUL- compete with one another with gusto and spirit of sportiveness. They are headed neutrally by a President and Vice-President who monitor the On-stage and Off-stage events. The captains and vice captains of the particular house identify students from various departments, motivate them and provide support to help them participate in the events.
On March 7th, Saturday, STRINGZ ’15 was inaugurated by Dr.Subbiah Bharathi, the Dean, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University), Ramapuram Campus. The welcome address for the inauguration was given by Dr.C.Sundar, Head of the MBA department and Cultural Coordinator for STRINGZ’15. The inaugural address was given by the Dean. The Vice Principal, Dr.L.Antony Michael Raj offered felicitations.
The host performances were a treat to the eyes. The first Classical Solo dance was a graceful tribute to the Almighty presented by Suprasanna of MBA. This was followed by another visual treat, a fusion dance by Kirthana of ECE.
The Skit and Mime was the first competition which set the momentum for the day. Aakash, Agni ,Trishul and Pruthvi performed Mime. The judges for the event were Mr. Rakshan and VJ Ahalya Venkatesh of the Small screen. Trishul house mimed their way to glory and they bagged the first prize.
The next competition to follow was Solo dance. Participants of each house enthralled the audience. Judges for the event were well known choreographers from the reputed dance school, FLYERZ. Kanagasagar of Aakash house turned out to be the best of all.
The post-lunch session commenced with a rocking performance by the Beat Boxers, Sauradeep Ganguly and Varun Mohan. This was followed by a mesmerizing show by the College band. They played to favourite tunes and popular numbers. The College Dance Team, Immunity also danced to popular numbers. A Promotional Video of Stringz 2015 was also screened for the audience.
This was followed by the most-awaited event, the Group dance. The Group Dance event was judged by 3 popular Choreographers, Mr.Madhan, Mr.Ruben and Mr.Vicky of the 5th Element Dance School. Prithvi House was the glorious winner of this event.
The Chief Guest for the Valedictory function evening was Mr.John Vijay, a multi-lingual actor of the Silver Screen. Mr.John Vijay distributed the prizes for the Off-stage and On-stage Cultural events. The promotional souvenir of the Photo Club, Camogenics was released. The Chief Guest also distributed awards to the office bearers of Stringz 2015 for the dedicated work. The TRISHUL House bagged the Overall Championship Shield. The vote of thanks was delivered by the President of STRINGZ’15 Mr.Rahul, Final yr ECE thanking the Management, Cultural Coordinators, Heads of the departments, Captains, Vice Captains, Volunteers, and the participants.
