Objective
To impart the practical knowledge of power quality, which is essential for EEE student, through an industrial expert who is in this field for a long time.
Brief Report
Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering conducted a Core Teaching in the subject Power Quality (Power quality in grid integrated power systems, including non-conventional energy systems) which is currently offered to the third year sixth semester EEE students. The event took place on 10th March, 2021. Dr. V. Karunakaran, retired superintendent engineer, TANGEDCO & TANTRANSCO gave speech about the issues of power quality. Dr. V. Karunakaran has a wide industrial and practical experience of about 38 years, working in state government and central government in power systems.
A practical approach on power system integration with smart grid, power factor improvement and majorly the power quality issues to be tackled in practical power system were explained by the expert.
Fourth unit and Fifth unit of the subject Power Quality deal with power quality issues with the integrated power system as well as the issues non-conventional energy sources. These two focuses were promptly addressed by Dr. V. Karunakaran, with practical overview, for about 90 minutes.
A total of about 110 students from second year , third year and final year of EEE took an active participation in the talk. The session was interactive and lively and most of the students actively interacted with guest, which was truly useful to them.
The participants provided a positive review about this event and they wanted more of such events in the near future. The session ended by the vote of thanks by the event coordinator of EEE department.
This was an eye opener for all the participants and research scholars to know about the real time applications of Tamilnadu substations.
