Drug abuse can be looked at, as an enemy of the society; it’s eating up the youth. It is engulfing more and more people every single day and getting rid of it, should be our top priority.
As young people are more at risk of this harsh reality, to create an awareness about the drug abuse and its impact among students, the Department of Mathematics SRMIST, Ramapuram has organized a Special Talk on the topic “Say No to Drugs” on 23.12.2021 exclusively for I Year B.Tech Students.

Mr. Mahesh Kumar Agarwal IPS, started his special talk on how and why teens fall into drug abuse. He mentioned that, peer influence, lack of knowledge and to beat the stress, younger generation go for drugs. He emphasized how drugs have a very strong impact on physical, mental and physiological health which leads to academic failure. He explained the short term and long-term effects on usage of drugs.
As offline classes are about to start, he suggested effective ways to engage yourself by indulging in physical exercises, music, dance, meditation, yoga etc which can channelize the energy in a positive direction to be a better human being. He asked the students to take pledge for not involving drugs related activities. He suggested the Management to form an Anti-Drug Team in the campus to counsel students and to create awareness.
Dean E&T during his felicitation address recommended to focus on changing the knowledge and attitudes of youths about the adverse effects of drug abuse. He also appreciated the department for organizing the special talk of social relevance.
Nearly 300 students participated in the program.
