“Empowering Girl Children to Ensure Gender Equality”
India celebrates National Girl Child Day each year on January 24. The day is an initiative of the ministry of women and child development and focuses on the need to address the challenges that girls face in Indian society due to gender biases. The purpose of the day is also to change the attitude of society towards girls.
As part of the celebration, the Department of Mathematics, SRMIST, Ramapuram has organized an Expert Talk on “Empowering Girl Children to Ensure Gender Equality” on 24.01.22.

Dr. N. Manimekalai, in her talk mentioned that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Itis critical to enhancing girls’ value by investing and empowering them with education, skills, sports, and many more.
She said every girl should give importance to her health, education and emotional balance to empower herself, to eliminate all forms of discrimination and violence against them in the public and private spheres.
She quoted many schemes like ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padho’, ‘Sukhanya Samriddhi’ which will help to empower themselves for their safety and career.
Dean E& T in his felicitation address said that when girls are educated, empowered, healthy and free from violence and discrimination, their communities are more prosperous and stable. Investing in gender equality is not just the right thing to do – it’s the smart thing to do.
More than 250 participants took active part in the program.
