The Department of Physics, SRM IST, Ramapuram organized Virtual International Conference on Hierarchically Structured Materials (ICHSM 2021) from 8th April 2021 to 10th April 2021

Day 1- April 08, 2021
Inaugural Function @9.45 AM
The event started with a welcome address by Dean(E&T), SRM IST, Ramapuram Campus, who welcomed Honorable Co-Chairman, Vice Chancellor,other dignitaries and participants. The Honorable Co-Chairman, SRM Group of Institutions, Ramapuram and Trichy Campuses gave the Presidential address. The Vice Chancellor i/c SRM IST gave the Special address. He explained about the significance of hierarchical materials in fabricating new devices and the latest developments in the field of solar cells and alternative energy.
The Conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr.Chandrabhas Narayana, Director, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Govt of India, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He delivered the Keynote Address where he elaborated on DNA protein molecules through Raman Spectroscopy and the recent technological developments in the field.
Dr. L. Sudha, Professor and Head/Department of Physics and Convener of ICHSM 2021 delivered the Vote of thanks.
Prof. Mohamed Jouini, Eqiupe Transduction Moleculaire & Supramoleculaire (TMS) Universite Paris- Diderot, France gave a scintillating invited talk on “Organic/Inorganic Hybrid Electrode Materials For Photo-Conversion of Solar energy”. The afternoon session of the day one was started by plenary talk by Dr. Claudia L. Bianchi, Professor, Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy on “Floating photocatalysts for a sustainable environmental remediation exploiting sunlight”.
The second plenary talk of the session was delivered by Dr. S. Balakumar, Professor and Director, National Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, University of Madras, India explained about “Hierarchically Structured Materials –Inevitable replacement in the field of Health care and Hydrogen Production”. The third plenary talk of the session was delivered by Prof. Sanjay Mathur, Director, Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, Chair, Inorganic and Materials Chemistry, on “ Efficient Photon-harvesting Technologies for Water Splitting Reactions”
Along with 3 plenary talk there was one invited talk which was delivered by Dr. Ganesh Kumar Mani, Micro/Nano Technology Center, Tokai University, Japan gave a talk on “Miniaturized Sensor Technology for Health care Applications”

Day 2 – April 09, 2021
The second day started with the Plenary talk of Dr. Oomman K. Varghese, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, University of Houston, Texas, USA explained about “Hierarchi cal nanostructures of semiconductors synthesized by anodic Oxidation”.Dr. Karthik Shankar, Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Alberta, Canada, gave a invited talk on “2D Carbon-Based Semiconductor Nanomaterials: Mass Producible, Earth-Abundant Materials for Photocatalysis and Photovoltaics”
Dr. Yasuhiro Hayakawa, Professor, Shizuoka University, Japan gave a scintillating plenary talk on “Synthesis of photo sensitive nanoparticles for bio-imaging and the ranostic application”. Dr. Masaru SHIMOMURA, Professor, Department of Electronics and Materials Science, Faculty of Engineering, Shizuoka University, Japan, gave a talk on “Element-sensitive local structural analysis by X-ray fluorescence holography and photoelectron diffraction”
Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Associate Professor (Experimental Condensed Matter Physics), Functional and Renewable Energy Materials Laboratory, Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar,Punjab, India gave an invited talk on “Gallium Oxide thin film based Solar-Blind Photodetectors”. Dr. Kumar Raju, Senior Researcher, Energy Centre, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Pretoria, South Africa, explained about “Metal Phosphates: Emerging Materials for Energy Storage”

Day 3 – April 10, 2021
Dr. Mohd Faiz Bin Mohd Salleh, Senior Lecturer, University of Malaya, Malaysia gave an invited talk on “Thermoelectric Power Factor of Rutile – Phased TiO2Thin Film”. Dr. Nobuo Saito, Professor, Deputy Director, Analysis and Instrumentation Center, Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan gave a detailed talk on “Demonstration of remote-controllable analytical equipment:TEM and XPS in NUT, Japan”. He has shown the live demonstration of remote-controlled X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) where we are able to run the system in Japan remotely from Ramapuram, Chennai. It was a great learning experience for the budding researchers.
Dr. Rajaboopathi Mani, Marie Sklodowska Curie Researcher, Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering, Aalto University, Finland gave a talk on “Mesocrystals: Nanoparticles as building blocks in single crystals”. Dr.Somnath Chanda Roy, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai explained about “A beautiful word of 1 dimensional nano and heterostructure”
Dr. Maxime Chambonneau, Institute of Applied Physics, Abbe Center of Photonics, Friedrich Schiller, University Jena, Albert-Einstein-Straße 15, Germany gave a talk on “In-Volume Laser-Silicon Interaction – Limitations, Solutions, Applications”
Valedictory Function @4.00 PM
The event started with welcome address by Dr. L. Sudha, Professor and Head/Physics and Convener of ICHSM 2021, SRM IST, Ramapuram. Dr.T.Beena, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics presented the report of ICHSM 2021. Dr.Venkatachalapathy, Dean(research), SRM group of institutions, Ramapuram and Trichy Campuses gave the valedictory address. Dean(E&T) and Dr. Maxime Chambonneau graced the valedictory function. Dr.M.Saravanan, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics delivered the vote of Thanks. We have received very good and positive feedback from all the participants.
