German Language – A window for International Careers in the Globalised World
The Department of English and other Foreign Languages of SRMIST Ramapuram organised an Expert Talk for the First year B-Tech students (CSE & IT) titled ‘German Language – A window for International Careers in the Globalised World’. The session began with the welcome address by the Head of the Department of English and other Foreign Languages, Dr. V. Rema. The resource person, Professor Vridhagiri Ganeshan, Emeritus Professor of German & Former Vice-Chancellor at Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) Hyderabad, India presented an enthralling session focussing on the many academic as well as professional avenues students learning German as a foreign could explore. The session also provided very precise methods and techniques that may be adopted to learn the German language and culture.
The presentation was vibrant, educative, and highly interactive. The speaker alluded to innumerable real-life instances and anecdotes from his own life to especially highlight the necessity of preserving one’s identity in one’s journey of acquiring a foreign tongue. The wit and sense of humour of the speaker deserve to be mentioned. The session culminated with a very thought-provoking and multilingual question and answer session providing answers to students desirous of pursuing their higher studies in Germany or those keen to better their knowledge of the German language. Themes such as the cost of living, unseen challenges, research prospects, or even entrepreneurship opportunities in Germany were discussed in great depth
