VIRTUAL WORKSHOP ON INDIAN NUCLEAR PROGRAMME
IN ASSOCIATION WITH IIM, KALPAKKAM CHAPTER & INDIRA GANDHI CENTRE FOR ATOMIC RESEARCH(IGCAR), KALPAKKAM
The Department of Physics organized Virtual Workshop on “Indian Nuclear Programme in association with Indian Institute of Metals,Kalpakkam chapter and IGCAR” on 01-08-2020 (Saturday) between 01:00PM to 05:00PM (IST) through ZOOM platform for HSC, Diploma Students and School Teachers.
Dr. L. Sudha, Hod/Physics and also convener of the workshop welcomed the gathering and delivered the overview of the workshop. .
In the first session, Dr.P. Parameswaran, Head, Physical Metallurgy Division, IGCAR delivered lecture on “Selection of Nuclear Materials”. He discussed about the basics of nuclear materials and how to choose coolant to reduce thermal effect. The session was moderated by Dr. M. Saravanan, Assistant Professor (S. G).
In the second session, Dr.V.Karthik, Head, Structural Materials Characterization Section, Post Irradiation Examination Division, IGCAR delivered lecture on the topic “Mechanical behaviour of nuclear materials”. He discussed elaborately about stress and strain relationship of nuclear materials and how the creep occurs in the materials. This session was moderated by Dr.A.Nataraj,coordinator and Assistant Professor (S. G).
Finally in the third session, Dr.Anita Toppo, Scientific Officer/E, Corrosion Science & Tech. Division, IGCAR delivered lecture on the topic “Environmental effects on performance of nuclear materials”. He discussed about how the environment affects the behavior of nuclear materials and its properties. The session was moderated by Dr. M. Saravanan, Assistant Professor (S. G).
We received overwhelming registrations, 177 students and school teachers actively participated in zoom 383 participants including Executive Committee members of IIM from all over india have participated in youtube live streaming. The participants raised questions to the speakers and discussed about the topics. The sessions were very vibrant and three brain teasers held in between the sessions. The participants gave very good feedback.
The resource persons thanked the management, Convener and organizers for arranging the virtual workshop.
The session was convened and chaired by Dr. L. Sudha, Hod/Physics. Dr. M. Saravanan, Assistant Professor (S. G), and organizing secretary of the workshop proposed the vote of thanks.
