Department of Physics has organized Special Lectures on Nanomaterials by
Worldrenowned scientists from Nanomaterials Laboratory, Research Institute of Electronics, Shizuoka University, Hamamatsu, Japan on 10.08.2018 (Friday) between 10.00 a.m to 12 noon in Conference hall, Admin Block.
Dean (E&T) welcomed the resource persons and delivered the welcome address. Dean (E&T), Dean (Research) and Vice – Principal (Admin) greeted and honoured the resource persons. Dr. L. Sudha, Professor and Head, introduced Prof. Yasuhiro Hayakawa from Research Institute of Electronics, Shizuoka University, Hamamatsu, Japan. Prof. Hayakawa given the introduction about the development of energy-related (thermoelectric, photovoltaic), catalytic and bio-imaging materials and how to improve their properties by research innovations. He genuinely elaborated the possibility of doing dual degree and Master’s degree program in Shizuoka University through Asia Bridge Program(ABP) and explained the financial aid program of the institution for the international students.
Prof. Hayakawa also explained the possibility of doing collaborative research work by Graduate students and Staff members of SRMIST with Shizuoka University, Hamamatsu, Japan.
Dr. V. Anbarasu, Asst. Professor (OG) introduced Prof. Ikeda Hiroya fromResearch Institute of Electronics, Shizuoka University, Hamamatsu, Japan. Prof. Ikeda explained the concepts and the possibilities of developing new functional and high efficient devices using Si nano-structured materials. He also explained the development of the materials with very high efficiency and the evaluation technology for it. Further explained the requirement for materializing thermoelectric devices, such as a power generator using waste heat and the self-power generation biosensor. He also splendidlyexplained the methods available for characterization of Nanomaterials and the status on development of new and novel Nanodevices.
Dr. T. Beena, Asst. Professor (SG) introduced Prof. Masaru Shimomura from Department of Optoelectronics and Nanostructure Science, Research Institute of Electronics, Shizuoka University, Hamamatsu, Japan. Prof. Shimomura delivered a lecture on development of new functional materials utilizing unique properties of interfaces between organic and inorganic materials. Prof. Shimomura explained the conditions for preparation and analysis of nanomaterials that is useful for the fabrication of nanodevices. He also briefly explained the possible collaborative research works to be carried out in Research Institute of Electronics, Shizuoka University, Hamamatsu, Japan.
Dr. T.S. Sridhar, Director General graced the occasion and interacted with the Japanese scientists. More than 50 Students, Research scholars and Faculty members of various department of SRMIST those are keen in doing collaborative research work attended the meeting. Dean (Research) and all other faculty members are intensively interacted with the Japanese scientist to acquire more knowledge on the field of Nanomaterials. Further, the session is open to the students and research scholars to interact with the resource persons from Japan to find out the solutions of how to carry out research projects related to development of nanodevices and their fabrication methods. Students and research scholars actively interacted with the Japanese scientists and discussed about the scope for future work and collaborative research possibilities to complete their project work in Research Institute of Electronics, Shizuoka University, Hamamatsu, Japan.
At the end of the interactive session, Dr. M. Saravanan, Asst. Professor (Sr.G) delivered vote of thanks and he thanked the Management, Dean (E&T), Dean (Res.),
VP (Admin), VP (Acad.) and other officials for their active support to conduct the special lecture event a grand success.
