ONE WEEK INTERNATIONAL FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ON CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT, RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION ETHICS, 2 TO 9 AUGUST 2021
EVENT REPORT
The Department of English and Other Foreign Languages, SRM Institute of Science And Technology, Ramapuram Campus, Chennai organized a One Week Faculty Development Program on Curriculum Development, Research and Publication Ethics, from 2nd to 9th August, 2021 for faculty and research scholars.
The one week FDP covered topics on research and academic writing, how to improve one’s research visibility by boosting citations, the key aspects of the structure of a research article and how to publish it in quality journals, insights on how to use the 9th edition of MLA referencing, the ethical standards to be followed while drafting, reviewing and publishing research, the evolution of the teaching-learning process in the current day and age with regard to curriculum development, the detrimental effects of plagiarism and tips to avoid it and how to identify a research problem, writing research titles and objectives. Seven resource persons of repute delivered mind-blowing lecture-presentations on very insightful and thought-provoking topics on each of the seven days of the program. A total of 3160 PG students, faculty and research scholars registered for this event, from 15+states in India and several countries abroad like the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Srilanka, Bhutan Philippines, Namibia, Nigeria And Cambodia who enthusiastically participated on all the days of the FDP.
Day 1 featured a live webinar with a vivid and eye-opening lecture on “Strategy for Enhancing Citation Booster to Improve Research Visibility – Scopus, WOS, H-Index, Orcid, GS” by Dr. S.A.D. Samaraweera, Deputy Director General in Faculty of Languages Humanities and Social Sciences.
Day 2 featured a live session on “Writing And Publishing Quality Research Papers” by Dr. Prashant Mothe, Adarsh Senior College Omerga, Osmanabad (MS), and Editor-In- Chief, LangLit Journal, Research Supervisor, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathawada University, Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
The Topic of Day 3 was “Current Trends in Research Writing and Research Methodology” by Dr. N. Nila, Research Guide, Post-graduate Dept. of English and Research Centre for Comparative Studies, Mercy College, Kerala.
Day 4 featured a live session with Dr. Dorien Kartikawangi, Associate Professor, Head of School of Communication, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia, deliberating on “Publication Ethics”.
On Day 5 we had an experienced speaker, Ms. Afroza Akhter Tina, Senior Lecturer, Department of English, Daffodil International University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, deliberating on “Curriculum Development in Language Teaching”.
The Topic of Day 6 was “Avoiding Plagiarism to Achieve Academic Research Integrity” by Dr. S. Veeramani, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Government Arts College, Kulithalai, Karur.
And on the final day, Day 7, we witnessed renowned speaker and research mentor, Dr. D. N. Sansanwal deliberate on “Identification of a Research Problem, Writing Titles and Objectives”.
There was a lot to take away from the profound experience and expertise of these experienced and learned speakers. There was also an interaction with the attendees towards the end of each session using the Youtube live chat stream, and the participants who attended were engaged in the lively Q & A sessions and registered positive and appreciative feedback on all the days of the FDP. The program came to a successful close with supportive and encouraging comments from all the attendees and concluding remarks from Professor and Head, Department of EFL, Dr. V. Rema, including a brief report of the event and vote of thanks by the organizers, Dr. S. Savitha and Dr. Walter Hugh Parker. The entire event was well coordinated by Dr. K. Nagamani and Ms. Pritha Basu, who rendered their undying support for the smooth conduct of the program. Last but not the least, among the 3160 PG students, faculty and research scholars who registered for the program, over 1500 participants attended all 7 days of the FDP and the entire program has reached over 10000 views on Youtube, all sessions included.
