expert talk on Mathematics in walks of life for higher secondary students and teachers

Dr.Kuriakose expressed his love for mathematics and its connection to life. He interpreted the human relations with number theory. He went on to explain the concept of ‘function’ on whose foundation lies the entire pedestal of engineering mathematics. He explained the importance of visualizing functions using ‘graphs’ and compared it to photographs.
He further linked continuity, differentiability and integrability with functions and explained that these form the ‘characteristics’ of a function.
Dr. Kuriakose bridged the philosophy of life with mathematics and wonderfully illustrated the geometry of life. He also explained the beauty of mathematics by quoting examples of golden rectangle and the aesthetics involved in golden ratio.
“If we have to be differentiable then we need to be continuous in life” has been etched in the minds of the participants who showered praises on the effectiveness of the talk and encouraged us to conduct many such events that highlight the importance of mathematics and philosophy. More than 150 students and teachers all over India participated in the program.
Dean (E& T) in his felicitation appreciated the Department for conducting such programs.
