The Respected Dean E&T in his felicitation address appreciated the Department of Mathematics for organizing awareness program on “Mental Hygiene” at the right time.
Dr. V. Smitha Ruckmani started the session by explaining about mental stability and the factors which influence metal stability namely, family, work, social relations and mental health care. To maintain mental well-being she suggested, to connect with other people as good relationships are important for mental wellbeing. This can be achieved by being physically active, learning new skills, paying attention to the present moment (mindfulness).
Prof. Smitha spoke on Resilience. She said building resilience is key to develop the ability to overcome stressful and challenging experiences.
Prof. Smitha recommended few aspects to build resilience namely – promoting positive thoughts, practicing gratitude, identifying negative thought patterns, such as pervasive feelings of social or academic inadequacy and replacing these thoughts with new and positive affirmations. Self-discipline, prioritizing work, time management and developing problem solving skills.
Prof. Smitha concluded the session by saying general health, encompasses of physical, psychological and social network. She added that, by maintaining healthy life style, physical state will improve which in turn improves mental wellness.
The awareness workshop on mental hygiene concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Lalitha.
Nearly 100 Participants enthusiastically participated in this awareness program.
