WORKSHOP ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP ON JULY 01, 2020
The department of Civil Engineering conducted a workshop on Entrepreneurship on July 1 2020 from 1:00PM to 2:30 PM exclusively for Diploma, +2 and UG students. As the world is battling against Covid 19 pandemic effectively,we the responsible citizen maintaining the social distancing conducted the workshop through online mode using zoom application and our event was a great success. More than 100 students participated in this event across the country.
The speaker for the day was Mr.Aman Shah young entrepreneur, Director of Ishan Powertech Pvt. Ltd, Delhi-NCR andhe was warmly welcomed by the event coordinator Mrs. G. Hemalatha Asst. Professor SRM Ramapuram.
The speaker enlightened us with all the points that he gained through his experience which in turn has benefitted all the students.He also gave idea about the difficulties that may occur in setting up the business as currently he handles 9 plants together in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. He even shared about the top 10 entrepreneurs in India and their success story as they started their career with a small start.Overallthe entire presentation was informative and the participants even raised queries which made the entire workshop interactive.

The department of Civil Engineering organized the webinar titled “STATUS OF RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION AND MARKETING DURING COVID- 19”for builders, consulting engineers, professionals and students of civil engineering department on 07.07.2020. The program has around 54 registrations from builders, consulting engineers, professionals ,faculties, and students of various colleges. The event started by 10.00 am and ends by 11.45 am, 56 members participated in the event enthusiastically.
Welcome address was given by Dr.T.Ch.Madhavi, HOD of Civil Engineering Department followed by presentation by the speaker Dr. S. Jeyachandran, Vice President, Marutham Group of Companies, Chennai on the topic “ Status of Residential Construction and Marketing during COVID-19”. At the end of the session participants raised questions that were well cleared by the speakers. Finally vote of thanks given by M.Jothilingam, Assistant Professor(S.G.) of Civil Engineering Department.
The session was highly informative and was appreciated by the participants making the event a success.
NATIONAL WEBINAR FOR FACULTIES, CIVIL PROFESSIONALSAND STUDENTSOF CIVIL ENGINEERING ON 13th JULY, 2020
The departmentof Civil Engineering organized thenational webinar titled “Military Bridges”for faculties, civil professionalsand students of civil engineering department on 13.07.2020. The program has around 741 registrations from faculties, civil professionals and students of various colleges and few participants from Zambia, Kuwait, Nigeria. The event starts by 10:00 am and ends by 12:00 pm. 300 members participated in the event enthusiastically.
Welcome address was given by the Event coordinator Ms.G.Nithyambigai,Assistant Professor (Sr.G) of Civil Engineering Department. The gathering was then addressed by Dr.T.Ch.Madhavi, HOD of Civil Engineering Department followed by presentation by the speaker DR.Lt.CoronalP.Nallathambi, Principal Structural Consultant, Chennaion the topic“Military Bridges”.At the end of the each session participants raised questions that were well cleared by the speakers. The departmentof Civil Engineering organized the webinar “Motivational Talk by Sarath, CEO – Food King” for Entrepreneurs, Graduates, Faculties, Research Scholars, Engineering and School Students on 16.07.2020. The program has around 730 registrations from various states of the country and few from Nepal and Zamia. The event starts by 2.00 pm and ends by 3.20 pm. 164 members participated in the event enthusiastically.
Welcome address was given by Dr.T.Ch.Madhavi, HOD of Civil Engineering Department and speaker was introduced by Mr. Santhosh Ram. R, Event Coordinator followed by Motivational Talk by the speaker Mr. Satathbabu Elumalai is an Indian entrepreneur, social worker, politician and founder and CEO of Food King, shared his inspiring successes story with all the participants. At the end session participants was very interactive and few questions was raised that were well cleared by the speaker. The departmentof Civil Engineering organized the national webinar titled “WOMAN EMPOWERMENT “on 27.07.2020. The program has around 600 registrations from faculty members, professionals and students of various colleges and other organizations. The event starts by 2:00 pm and ends by 3:15 pm. 180 members participated in the event enthusiastically.
Welcome address was given by the Event coordinator Mrs. F. Stella mary, Assistant Professor (Sr.G) of Civil Engineering Department. The gathering was then addressed by Dr.T.Ch.Madhavi, HOD of Civil Engineering Department followed by the speaker speech by LETIKA SARAN IPS, Former DGP, and Chennai on the topic “WOMAN EMPOWERMENT”. At the end of the session participants interacted with the Guest speaker that were highly motivated and delightful to all young girls and Woman Participants. As the world is battling against Covid 19 pandemic effectively,we the responsible citizen maintaining the social distancing conducted the webinar through online mode using zoom application and our event was a great success. More than 200 students participated in this event across the country.
The speaker for the day was Mr.Arvind Chauhan, Graduate Civil Engineer, Airports Authority of India, Works in Project Management at Dehradun Airport. He done two Projects about Extension of Apron at Dehradun and Construction of new passengers terminology building at Dehradun. Andhe was warmly welcomed by the event coordinator Mrs. G. Hemalatha Asst. Professor SRM Ramapuram.

Three days International Faculty Development Program on “Smart Solutions in Civil Engineering” was conducted successfully. Various experts in different fields of Civil Engineering have given presentation on essential and innovative topics. Each day, the presentation was started with the welcome of speakers by the Head of the Department followed by the introduction of speakers by the coordinator. Hundreds of participants including students, professors and other professionals participated effectively and the interactive sessions made the event successful.
Day 1: 21stJuly 2020, 10.00 – 11.00 am

Title: “Prefab Modular construction in high-rise building – Is it innovation or smart construction?”
Prof. Shan Kumar, an expertise in construction industry, working in various significant projects has presented an innovative topic on “Prefab Modular construction in high-rise building – Is it innovation or smart construction?”. Detailed information on different techniques in prefabricated construction including panels and modules were presented. Also, the various materials and their assembly in modular construction were explained. The importance of Prefab modular construction in high-rise building was described elaborately with their diverse advantages.

Title: “How much does it cost to build in India and around the World?”
Dr. Toong-Khuan Chan, an eminent Professor in Construction Management and having wide knowledge in Economics ofbuilding construction, delivered a interesting lecture on “How much does it cost to build in India and around the World?”.The variations in cost of building construction in different cities around the world were elaborately discussed statistically. Also, the ratio of different construction materials to the labour cost in different cities and the cost ratio between construction materials were explained clearly. The various influencing factors to construction such as materials, labour, machinery and capital were presented in detail. Finally, the dominant materials and technologies involved in construction industries in different countries were compared with India.

Title: “Seismic Risk and Condition Assessment?”
Dr. Vesile Hatun Akansel, specialist in Earthquake Engineering and working in fascinating areas such as Non-linear behaviour assessment of structure, Risk mitigation, Seismic protection and cultural heritage, has presented on “Seismic Risk and Condition Assessment”. The presentation includes condition and risk assessment for (i) a region after earthquake and (ii) buildings including school buildings and historical structures. Seismic risk and condition assessment was explained clearly with the various seismic hazard map. The spatial distribution of damage around the fault plane after the main shock and the damage in villages were shown. Also the different post-earthquake assessment of special structures was discussed in detail.
