The Women’s Grievances & Redressal Cell(WGRC), Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRMIST, Ramapuram has organized a Series of Talks on “Reaching beyond Limits: Voices of The Other” as part of International Women’s Day from 01.03.2023 to 07.03.2023. The brightest minds of various domains were invited to discuss the various issues and challenges faced by women.

Dr. Priyamvadha elaborated the facts about International and Non-International armed conflict violence /abuse. She also put forward the violence against women happening in the armed forces. Her definitions for terrorism, armed forces and conflict were extraordinarily explained. The speaker , in her conclusion spoke about conflicts resolution, Conflict Management Styles, Methods of peacemaking and the Role of women in peacemaking . On the whole the session was thought provoking.

Dr. Smitha Ruckmani elaborated the concept of therapeutic intervention with the ideas of recovery, healthy ways to deal with stress and handling adolescence. The speaker emphasised that there is lack of availability in resources offered to women in the society. She also suggested few steps to promote women’s health by extending the development policies to protect and promote women’s mental health which is extremely crucial.

Dr. Vasundhara spoke about the challenges that women face in the field of research due to gender bias. It is found to be the main obstacle as women are often subjected to unconscious bias. She also strongly registered her unhappiness saying that women are underestimated and their contributions stay undervalued. Her tips for the improvement of representation and success of women in research is the highlight of the session . The speaker also explained about various funding agencies for women in India.

Topic: Women with disability: Rights and Challenges

Dr. Latha Rajendran stole the show with her power packed lecture delivery on various disabilities that are identified according to RPWD act 2016. According to her, women with disabilities are often pushed to the extreme margins and experience profound discriminations. Her talk also included the government measures that are into action to prevent the offences against women with disabilities.

Dr. Jayashree Venkatesan conveyed a very special and unforgettable message on “ Gender Dimensions of Biodiversity Conversation “ . She put forward her thoughts on Women and Violence with many real time examples and had also taught the audience the techniques to encounter violence against women . She said that even progressive Nations do have a comparatively lesser literacy rate of women which is to be noted. She added that human’s protecting nature is sceptical and the gender is only a social attribute.

Dr. Geetha Rajan’s address to the audience was completely delightful and thoughtful. Her focus was on the health and wellness of today’s women . She has adviced that every powerful women should take care of physical health. She elaborated the difference at different stages of life and treatment. Exercising regularly, Eating healthy, Reducng stress were the key points suggested by the speaker . She has explained about the cervical and ovarian cancer which is gradually developing day by day.
Nearly 200 participants from various parts of the world have actively participated in the talk series.
