India celebrates National Girl Child day each year on January 24. The day is an initiative of the ministry of women and child development and focuses on the need to address the challenges that girls face in Indian society due to gender biases. The purpose of the day is also to change the attitude of society towards girls. As part of the celebration, the Internal Complaints Committee & Women‘s Grievances and Redressal Cell, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRMIST, Ramapuram has organized an Expert Talk on ”Rights of a girl child in India : Government Schemes” on 24.01.2023.

Dr.S Usharani in her talk mentioned that the Constitution of India provides for rights including fundamental rights for the safeguard and empowerment of girl child. These provisions include equality, prohibition of discrimination, prohibition of trafficking among humans, etc.”
Dr. Usharani explained many Government schemes which will help the girl children to empower themselves for their safety and career.
Dean E& T in his felicitation adress said that when girls are educated, empowered, healthy and free from violence and discrimination, their communities are more prosperous and stable.More than 100 participants took active part in the program.
