Topic: Some magical aspects of balancing and cobalancing numbers.
Dean E&T in his felicitation address appreciated the department for organizing talk on number theory and its applications which has wide applications in interdisciplinary fields of science.
Dr.Panda started the session on a famous problem of Ramanujan that appeared in the puzzle column of “Strand” – a London-based monthly magazine. Hespoke on Triangular number – the representation of the numbers in the form of equilateral triangle arranged in a series or sequence.
Dr.Panda defined and detailed on balancing numbers and cobalancing numbers. He spoke on recurrence relations for cobalancing numbers. Hedetailed on Binet form for cobalancing numbers and an application of cobalancing numbers to the Diophantine equation.
Dr.Panda concluded the talk with an open session with the participants in which he answered to the queries raised.
Dr.Parthasarathy, Assistant Professor proposed the vote of thanks. Morethan 160 participants enthusiastically participated in this expert talk.
