“Creating hope through action” is the triennial theme for the World Suicide Prevention Day from 2021 – 2023. This theme is a reminder that there is an alternative to suicide and aims to inspire confidence and light in all of us.
To create awareness among the youth about prevention of suicide and to create hope through action, Department of Mathematics organized an expert talk on “Creating Hope through Action” as part of World Suicide Prevention Day.

The program started with the welcome address by the HoD, Department of Mathematics. Dr. V. Smitha Ruckmani started the session with an activity round for students and she said,
World Suicide Prevention Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of suicide and to promote action through proven means that will reduce the number of suicides and suicide attempts globally.
Dr. V. Smitha vocalized certain factors and life events that might make a person more vulnerable to suicide attempts. Mental health conditions like anxiety and depression can also be a contributing factor.
Dr.Smitha mentioned certain non-verbal indicators of people who have suicidal thoughts and how to make those people to come out of those thoughts.
Dr. V. Smitha said by creating hope through action, we can signal people that we care and want to support them. She also suggested certain actions, no matter how big or small, may provide hope to those who are struggling.
Dr. V. Smitha Ruckmani distributed prizes for the awardees of Poster Making Competition conducted for B. Tech Students held on 5.9.2022, as a part if World Suicide Prevention Day.
Nearly 200 B. Tech Students enthusiastically participated in this program.
The program concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Lalitha, Asst. Professor Dept. of Mathematics.
