ABOUT INSTITUTION:

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRMUniversity) is one of India’s top-ranked universities, with over 20,000 students and 1,500 faculty members, and offers a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in Engineering, Management, Medicine and Health Sciences, Science, and Humanities. SRMIST distinguishes itself through foreign faculty, a flexible and dynamic curriculum, intriguing research, and worldwide connections. Nanotechnology, bioinformatics, genetic engineering, remote sensing and GIS, embedded systems, and computer forensics are among the cutting-edge programmes available to students. TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, Infosys, Siemens, and more companies have over 100 percent placement of registered students.

ABOUT DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Information Technology at the Ramapuram Campus was founded in 2005. Today, the most active engineering profession is most certainly information technology. IT is an academic subject that focuses on meeting user demands by selecting, developing, using, integrating, and administering computing technology. The department works with a number of well-known software companies, including TCS, HCL, and Infosys, and the students and faculty benefit immensely from this industry-institute collaboration. We continue to support various research endeavours that help society through our teachers and students, thanks to our partnership with DST, MHRD, and the Tamil Nadu State Government. We often organise outreach and extension initiatives for societal development.

ABOUT CHAT:

One of the most active groups at SRMIST is CHAT (Community of Hackers and Advanced Technologists). We are particularly interested in raising awareness among consumers about cyber and technology hazards. Our group is well-versed in the latest technological advancements. The major goal is to donate our efforts to this society in order to assist them in making judicious use of technology. Our action plan involves a series of hands-on sessions with a webinar, followed by numerous activities that will let participants think outside the box and work in a group setting where they can learn from one another. CHAT is particularly interested in cyber security and other emerging technology. CHAT has over 100 members, has hosted over 20 events with an attendance of over 5000 people, has a technical blog with over 1500 subscribers, and is also building an “anonymous crime reporting platform” on which users may report various sorts of crime and tip-offs. CHAT is one of the coordinators of Aurganon ’21, a national-level technological symposium organised by the SRMISTIST department of IT.

ABOUT HACKATHON:

The CHAT club from the IT department at SRMIST’s Ramapuram campus, in partnership with the Greater Chennai City Police, Cyber Crime Cell, Central Crime Branch is orchestrating the “Police Hackathon.” This event comprises two distinct stages. Initially, teams will engage in an online submission phase, presenting solution concepts. The top 20 teams will then advance to the second round. In the subsequent phase, these selected teams will convene on campus to showcase their operational solutions to a panel of experts, with a duration of 2 Days.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

  1. Deep Fake Detection – Safeguarding Reality in the Age of AI:

The participants need to create solutions that tackle the increasing risk created by deepfake media. In this hackathon, participants will engage in dynamic exploration for creative ways to identify and stop the spread of false information produced by artificial intelligence.

  1. Training Simulation – Virtual Sleuth:

Participants are tasked with creating an immersive and realistic training simulation specifically designed to train Cyber Crime Officers in the investigation and mitigation of advanced cybercrimes. From deciphering intricate attack patterns to conducting digital forensics, this hackathon aims to develop a simulation that replicates the complexities of real-world cyber threats and seeks to bridge the gap between traditional policing and the evolving landscape of cyber threats, empowering officers to navigate complex digital investigations effectively.

  1. Social Media Blocking – Bot Blocking:

Hackathon challenges participants to revolutionize social media reporting with an innovative solution that leverages bots to facilitate multiple reports on specific content. This hackathon aims to enhance user-driven content moderation by introducing automation and efficiency in the reporting process, ensuring a swift and effective response to objectionable material on social media platforms.

  1. Spam and phishing URL Tracing & Blocking:

Design and develop a technological solution for AI-enabled Phishing Links Detection and Alert System. The solution should be able to identify the source of phishing attacks in web pages, email apps, social media, instant messenger apps, text messages etc. The solution may be in the form of a desktop/mobile application or a web browser plugin.

Design and develop a crowd-sourcing based solution that can trace, analyse and verify the source of any incoming call, SMS and Email based on the inputs from the end-users. The solution should be able to classify, whether the source is genuine or spam. Also, the solution should be able to generate a risk score for incoming calls, SMS and Emails, based on the crowd-sourced input.

  1. AI Translate – Natural Language Processing based Chat emotion detection and summarization:

Design and develop a technological solution in the domain of artificial intelligence, or AI, that focuses on helping to understand text and speech similarly as humanscan. Natural Language Processing (NLP) enables computer programs that translate text between languages and react to spoken commands and also Seeking to enhance the emotional recognition system’s functionality.

  1. Obscene Content Block:

Create and implement a method for identifying and blocking any abusive and obscene media (audio, video, or image) on the user’s end.The solution should be able to send alerts to the concerned nodal agency in case of the spread of such content. The solution may be in the form of a desktop/mobile application or a web browser plugin.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Participation is open to both students and start-ups. Eligibility is extended to engineering students enrolled in a registered university or institution from anywhere in India.
