A hands-on interactive event to demonstrate how real world games work. A brief introduction on how to use game engines like Unity and its partnered software like Photoshop and Blender. This workshop is designed to be the perfect introduction ranging from beginner to advanced level game development skills. This event is meant to upskill high school students during the COVID-19 lockdown and engage them in meaningful activities.
Importance of the workshop
1) Covers essential aspects of game designing.
2) Getting students familiar with game development software and skillsets required.
3) Learn how the basic programming works and how graphics are designed for games using software such as Blender.
4) Students made a game for themselves which they can test on their own devices.
The session began with a welcome speech by Dean E&T and HOD of CSE department.Their words of inspiration were extremely motivational for the assembled students. The event kicked off with more than 105 participants! The very first session was the Introduction of Game Design which included a detailed explanation and future scope about the game programming industry and the sort of jobs involved in it. The enthusiastic participation of the students during the session was evident from them asking their nagging questions about the game industry and even volunteering to answer the questions being asked. After the first session, the event continued with the Introduction to Photoshop for game designing, importance of designing, tutorial on 2D and 3D games, gaming culture evolutions, photoshop versions, editing and tools required for a profesisonal working capacity. Each individual session covered their topics with an intense energy and motivated the students to willingly join in on the interactive session. After that, the speakers moved on to the game design and development section of the event, explaining the complex software process including the installation process, Unity 3D workspace, downloading and using prefabs in the game scenes, and ended with a fun and energetic hands on session. The creativity of the students knew no bounds!
Towards the end of the event, the participants received a comprehensive overview on the software required for game development, a step by step procedure to install these software on their own machines, knowing all of the essential UI features in Unity and functionality of different features in it, and creating a mobile game using Unity’s mobile compatibility feature. In between the sessions, the speakers made sure to include different quizzes to keep the participants engrossed. The winners were gallantly announces at the end of the event.
In conclusion, the participants thoroughly enjoyed and gained an enormous awareness and a basic experience of the total game development culture, procedure, tools, and concepts. Moreover, the students expressed their deep satisfaction with the event, and even inquired about future such interactive sessions.
