TheInaugural Function of “Women Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Centre” was
held Virtually at SRMIST, Ramapuram on 28.01.2022. Main objective of the centre would be to
empower women with skill and knowledge.

Programme began with invocation and lighting of Kuthuvilakku. Convener of the program Dr.
Shakeela Sathish, HOD Mathematics, briefed about the programme and welcomed the gathering.
Chief Director in his Presidential Address said that the main objective of the “
lq‘Women Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Centre” is to train women to face all challenges
in all fields of their lives.
Dean E&T in his felicitation address said that this centre is established to ignite the spirit of
entrepreneurship amongst the female students and faculty members.
Mrs. Kamini, IPS in her address said that gender equality is fundamental to the achievement
of human rights that benefits all in the society. She mentioned about National commission for
Women Act,1990 of Govt of India, which enables women to achieve equality and equal partici-
pation in all spheres of life by securing her due rights.
She mentioned women empowerment includes raising women’s status through education, carer,
literacy, training and other aspects of life. Female Empowerment is promoting a women’s self-
worth and their ability to do things based on their own choices and their right to influence social
change for themselves and others. She said empowerment of women must happen in social,
educational, economic, political and psychological levels.
She mentioned about many schemes for empowerment of women like One Stop Centre Scheme,
Ujjawala – A Comprehensive Scheme for prevention of trafficking, Nari Shakti Puraskar, Mahila
Shakti Kendras, Nirbhaya scheme etc.
The function concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Lalitha, Asst. Professor, depart-
ment of Mathematics. More than 190 participants took part in the Inaugural Function.
