Summary of the Event

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME-UNIT, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram Campus Conducting a Special Village Camp from 26.02.25 to 03.03.25 in Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Kovur, Chennai.

The objective of this event is to improve hygiene and cleanliness in the school premises and also to create awareness among the school students on cleanliness, hygiene, safety, health and educating them on various backgrounds including academics. Various events and activities were conducted on each day of the camp.

DAY 1 (26.02.25)

The inaugural ceremony of the Special Village Camp commenced with great enthusiasm, graced by the esteemed presence of the Dr. M. Sakthi Ganeshan (Dean) and Dr. Balika J Chelliah (VP Admin). They formally inaugurated the camp and addressed the gathering, which included the Mr. Anbazhagan (Union Councillor) and the Dr. J. Vasudevan Headmaster of the School
The event began with the traditional lighting of the Kuthu vilakku, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the beginning of a meaningful journey. Following this, the dignitaries delivered insightful speeches, emphasizing the significance of community service and student involvement in social welfare activities.

As a part of the event, a tree plantation drive was conducted, reinforcing the message of environmental conservation. Enthusiastic student volunteers actively participated in cleaning the school premises and painting classroom boards, enhancing the learning environment for students.

In the later part of the day, volunteers interacted with school students, engaging them in educational and motivational discussions, making the first day of the camp both productive and inspiring.

Day 2 (27.02.25)

The Sports and Cultural Competitions

1. Kabaddi – The competition was intense as students exhibited strength, strategy, and coordination. The teams showed outstanding resilience and sportsmanship.
2. Kho-Kho – The event witnessed energetic performances from students who displayed remarkable teamwork and agility. The fast-paced nature of the game kept the participants and spectators engaged throughout.
3. 100-Meter Running Race – Participants demonstrated their speed and endurance in a highly competitive race. The event concluded with an award ceremony for the winners.
4. Tami/ English Essay writing, Drawing Competition – Students showcased their creativity and artistic talents, producing thought-provoking and visually appealing artwork on various themes
5. Essay Writing Competition – Participants expressed their thoughts eloquently on given topics, demonstrating excellent writing skills and critical thinking

Day 3 (28.02.25)

On the third day of the village camp, our NSS Unit 06 carried out a school cleaning and painting activity. The day began with a morning assembly where the team was divided into smaller groups to manage different tasks systematically.

Swachh Bharat Initiative

As part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, students engaged in a cleanliness drive within the school premises.

The activities included

1. Cleaning classrooms and corridors to provide a hygienic environment for the upcoming public examinations. 
2. Organizing and setting up classrooms to ensure a conducive atmosphere for students appearing for their exams.
3. Proper disposal of waste materials and spreading awareness about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene

After the cleaning work, volunteers proceeded with the painting task, which aimed to revamp the school’s appearance and create a more vibrant atmosphere. The painting activity brought out the creativity and teamwork among the volunteers, adding a lively touch to the school

Day 4 (01.03.25)

Survey and Medical Camp Awareness On the fourth day of the village camp, our NSS Unit 06 conducted a survey and awareness campaign to inform the villagers about the free medical camp scheduled to be organized on the following day. The objective of the activity was to ensure maximum participation of the villagers by spreading awareness about the camp and understanding their health-related concerns

The day began with a morning briefing session where volunteers were divided into teams and assigned different areas of the village. The survey aimed to collect basic information about the health conditions of the villagers, their common health issues, and their awareness of regular medical check-ups

Volunteers interacted with the villagers through door-to-door visits, creating friendly conversations to explain the importance of the upcoming medical camp. The villagers were informed about the various medical services that would be provided during the camp, such as general health check-ups, blood pressure checks, diabetes tests, and consultations with doctors

Day 5 (02.03.25)

DENTAL AND MEDICAL CAMP

On the 5^th day of the camp, Dental camp was conducted by our student coordinators and medical camp also conducted by the medical team and all activities were being coordinated by the NSS student and Faculty coordinators

Day 6 (03.03.25)

On the 6^th day of the camp, Temple cleaning was conducted by our student coordinators was done and all activities were being coordinated by the NSS student and Faculty coordinators

Temple pond area was cleaned by NSS students.

Day 7 (04.03.25)

Camp Activities On 4^th March the Valedictory Ceremony was commenced. The Dean (E&T) Dr. M Sakthi Ganeshan. was invited as the chief guest.

The Valedictory Ceremony began with the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu. Our  Nss Coordinator delivered the welcome address and he also addressed the gathering with his gratitude towards all the faculties and students involved in making the camp a great success. The Chief Guest gave the valedictory address. The Headmaster of GHSS kovur gave the special address. Finally, the prize distribution for the winners of various sports activities conducted for the students of GHSS Kovur was done. The winners were awarded with medals. The 1-week NSS Special Village Camp 2025 was ended with Vote of Thanks by Mr. S. Vijayan A.P/ CIVIL and National Anthem
