SUMMARY OF THE EVENT
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organized an insightful One day Skill Development Webinar on ” The Future of Data Security Trends & Predictions”, on March 10th, 2025. Mr.Andrew David Bhagyam, Senior Privacy Product Manager, Microsoft, gave an insightful talk on Data Security Trends and Predictions . The Webinar was aimed at motivating the First-year ECE students to gain knowledge on the latest treats, trends and best practices in data security. The sessions started with a Welcome Address by Dr.M.Saravanan, Assistant Professor, followed by an Introduction about Mr. Andrew David Bhagyam by Dr. Jacintha.V, Assistant Professor. Mr. Andrew David, briefed the students regarding the importance of Cloud Security & Implementing strategies to mitigate the various threats.The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. R. Karthiga, Assistant Professor.
Andrew David is a season data privacy expert with more than 8 years experience (full-time) in this domain. Though he joined Zoho as a software developer in the early stages of his career earlier, he has lead the privacy program at Zoho where he served as the Global Privacy Program Manager (Head – Privacy Office) heading various compliance, regulatory support of privacy operations & audits, before moving to Microsoft where he is currently serving as Senior Privacy Product Manager in which he does a myriad of extensive deep-tech privacy reviews of Microsoft365 applications such as Teams, Office Online, Skype, Copilot among others. He is an ethical hacker, and has a number of prestigious industry-envied certifications in cyber security and data privacy such as ones from the ISACA and the IAPP. He has also completed his Masters in Software Systems with specialisation in Cyber Security from BITS Pilani.
Andrew David had explained the important of data security and students navigate the digital landscape, they are increasingly aware of the importance of security in cloud. With the rise of online learning, social media, and digital storage, students are generating and sharing vast amounts of personal data. However, this increased digital footprint also exposes them to various security risks. Students perceive hacking and phishing as significant threats to their data security. They are aware that hackers and phishers use various tactics to trick them into revealing sensitive information or gaining unauthorized access to their devices. Students are also concerned about the risk of malware and viruses compromising their devices and data. Furthermore, they recognize the risks associated with using unsecured Wi-Fi networks, which can expose their data to interception and theft. Data security is a growing concern for students, who are increasingly aware of the risks associated with online activities. The session was handled with various polls and awareness videos which make the students are interactive in the session.
