- Location & Facilities
The SRM Medical College is located in SRM Nagar,Trichy-Chennai Highway,Irungalur,Tiruchirappalli, well supplied with advanced laboratories (biochemistry lab,microbiology lab,toxicology lab ) and so on
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
All personnel are required to wear appropriate PPE, including masks and gloves to ensure safety in hospital environment
Waste Management
The institute follows strict waste management protocols to ensure the safe disposal of hazardous materials, including biological and chemical waste.
DEPARTMENTS VISITED
Pathology Department:
Here, observed how tissue samples are analyzed to diagnose diseases. The pathologists work closely with other departments to provide accurate diagnostic information using equipments like cryostat in histopathology, Urine analyzer in clinical pathology,coagulation analyzer in haematology department
Radiology Departments:
These imaging departments were equipped with the latest technology. We saw how CT ,MRI, X ray, Mammogram scans provide detailed images of internal organs, which aid in diagnosing conditions such as tumors and internal injuries.
Ophthalmology Department:
We were introduced to the specialized equipment used in eye care, including diagnostic tools for eye exams and the use of keratometer,NSP machine .
Phototherapy Unit:
This unit treats skin conditions like dermatitis and psoriasis using light therapy, demonstrating the hospital’s use of non-invasive treatments.
Operating Theatre (OT):
Observed a surgical setup, where anaesthetic workstation,Diathermy were used for precise surgical procedures, minimizing tissue damage and promoting faster recovery.
Intensive Care Units(ICU):
Observed and studied the working of patient monitor,ventilator and dialyser for diagnosing and fast recovery process
Learnings
Through this visit, gained valuable insights into how various departments function together to provide comprehensive patient care. Some key takeaways include:
- The role of modern medical equipment, such as the ELISA analyzer and Vitek, in improving diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.
- How different departments, from pathology to ophthalmology, contribute to holistic patient care.
- The importance of cutting-edge technologies like CO2 and diode lasers in skin treatments with minimal invasiveness.

On September 28, 2024, the Department of Biomedical Engineering organized a one-day hospital visit to the SRM MEDICAL COLLEGE in Trichy, Thiruchirappalli. A total of 49 students, accompanied by 2 staff members, participated in this educational excursion. During the visit, the group was welcomed with an orientation program that provided insights into the institute’s mission and various research initiatives. The students had the opportunity to explore multiple hospital departments, where they gained valuable knowledge about various instruments and their working. This visit not only enhanced the students’ understanding of practical applications in their field but also fostered a connection between academic learning and hospital practices. The engagement with Hospital expert staff and exposure to state-of-the- art facilities were highlights of this enriching experience.
