The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRMIST, Ramapuram has organised an Expert Talk on ”Recent trends in Machine Learning and its applications”
Prof. C. Vijayalakshmi started the session by outlining the applications of mathematical concepts in AI. She has explained the importants of statistics in machine learning, cal- culus in Neural networks, probability theory in natural language processing, geometry in computer vision, kinematics in robotics, optimization in operations research, and graph theory in data mining.
Prof. C. Vijayalakshmi elaborated the applications of machine learning and its wide spectrum. She detailed about the functional data, its important features, the procedure to transforming data into functions, smoothing functions and registering functions.
Prof. C. Vijayalakshmi discussed fundamental types of learning, different types of sta- tistical approaches like statistical learning, Na¨ıve Bayes and instant base learning. She outlined about supervised learning, un-supervised learning and reinforcement learning. She concluded the session by detailing statistical models for the impact of purchase and sales of foreign institutional investments on Indian stock under various sections. More than 100 participants participated the workshop and dynamically participated in the discussion session.
