Conclusion
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai – Ramapuram Campus, organized a One-Day Workshop on “Industry 5.0” as a value-added academic program for undergraduate mechanical engineering students. The event aimed to familiarize students with emerging industrial paradigms that emphasize human-centric, sustainable, and resilient manufacturing systems. The workshop provided an overview of the evolution from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0, highlighting human–machine collaboration, ethical responsibility, and sustainability in industrial environments. Eminent industry professionals and quality experts delivered technical sessions on smart manufacturing, quality and reliability engineering, sustainable industrial practices, and future workforce requirements.
Special emphasis was placed on integrating quality, reliability, and sustainability frameworks in manufacturing systems, aligning the program with Outcome-Based Education principles and the Sustainable Development Goals. The sessions enabled students to appreciate the societal and environmental responsibilities of engineers while adopting technologies. The event also facilitated industry–academia interaction, allowing students to engage with experts, discuss real-world industrial challenges, and gain insights into emerging career opportunities. Interactive discussions promoted critical thinking, communication, and awareness of lifelong learning.
Overall, the workshop contributed to the attainment of Program Outcomes, particularly engineering knowledge, tool awareness, ethics, and sustainability, supporting NBA and NAAC accreditation requirements effectively.
