SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Department of Language, Culture and Society, under the banner of SRMR MUN Society, conducted a three-day workshop which commenced on February 16, 2026, with an introduction to Model United Nations (MUN) and its Rules of Procedure (ROP). The workshop aimed to equip students with essential diplomatic skills, including formal debate, policy research, and structured deliberation, thereby laying a strong foundation for effective participation in MUN conferences.
DAY 1

The workshop “Diplomacy in Action: Begin Your MUN Journey”, organized by the Department of Language, Culture, and Society, witnessed the participation of nearly 100 students, making it a highly engaging and interactive session. The workshop focused on introducing participants to the fundamentals of Model United Nations, with detailed explanations on how MUNs function and how different committees operate.
The session provided clear insights into committee structures, their roles, and the overall flow of debates and procedures, helping first-time participants gain confidence and clarity. The interactive nature of the workshop encouraged active participation through questions and discussions, making the learning experience both informative and engaging. The session successfully laid a strong foundation for the upcoming days, and the workshop will continue tomorrow with further committee-specific training.
DAY 2
Date: 17.02.2025
The second day of the workshop, Diplomacy in Action: Begin Your MUN Journey, continued with strong participation and focused, committee-specific training sessions. Participants were divided into four classrooms based on committee categories: Indian Committee, UNHRC, UNGA & International Press, and Crisis Committee. Each session provided a detailed yet accessible briefing on how the respective committee functions, along with an explanation of the Rules of Procedure specific to each committee.
The interactive nature of the sessions allowed participants to better understand the flow of debate, the role of delegates, and the procedural differences across committees. This structured approach helped students gain clarity on what to expect in their chosen committees and how to prepare effectively. The sessions concluded with instructions for the next day, where participants will be assigned specific countries and agendas and will be required to prepare and present a speech, further strengthening their practical understanding of MUN proceedings.
DAY 3

The third and final day of the workshop Diplomacy in Action: Begin Your MUN Journey was conducted as a mock committee simulation, providing participants with a hands-on experience of how an actual MUN conference functions. Participants were assigned portfolios and given the opportunity to prepare and deliver speeches, while also being guided through the procedures and flow of debate in real time.
Through this practical simulation, students learned how to represent their portfolios effectively, speak with confidence, and engage in structured debate, making the session highly valuable in preparing them for real MUN conferences. The interactive and experiential nature of the session helped participants understand the role of a delegate more clearly and refine their public speaking and procedural skills. The feedback received from participants was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the usefulness and impact of the workshop in making them MUN-ready.
