The Maze Solver event, a flagship activity organized by the BIO-NEXUS Club—the official non-technical club of the Department of Biomedical Engineering—was successfully conducted on 19th February 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:10 PM, at the Bio-Instrumentation Lab, Block III. This creatively designed event aimed to push the boundaries of students’ cognitive abilities, problem-solving techniques, logical reasoning, and adaptability through a series of intricate and challenging maze-based activities. The event was conceptualized not just as a game but as a strategic brain exercise to foster critical thinking, decision-making under pressure, and out-of-the-box approaches—all within a limited time frame.
The competition was structured into three exhilarating rounds, each designed with a unique twist. The first round, titled Left-Hand Path Challenge, tested participants’ motor coordination and adaptability, as they were required to solve a maze using only their non-dominant (left) hand—challenging both their patience and precision. The second round, Trick Maze Challenge, added a layer of complexity with deceptive paths and unexpected twists, compelling participants to think beyond conventional methods and quickly adapt to unforeseen turns. The final round, Speed & Riddle Round, combined the thrill of fast-paced maze-solving with the challenge of solving riddles simultaneously, demanding quick thinking, multi- tasking, and sharp intuition from every participant.
The event began with an inspiring inaugural address by Dr. Ushus Mam (Head of the Department) and Ms. Puspa B. (Assistant Professor), who emphasized the importance of nurturing soft skills like strategic thinking, team spirit, and creativity in parallel with technical knowledge. This was followed by an enthusiastic introduction by Student Coordinator Liya Diwan S., who set the tone for the event by welcoming the participants and briefly explaining the significance and flow of the competition.
To ensure clarity and fairness throughout the competition, the event rules and instructions were presented in detail by Ramesh Kannan, Kaushika S., and Vigeshwaran S., who also actively monitored each round and engaged with participants to keep the energy high and the process transparent. Their guidance played a pivotal role in maintaining the momentum of the event. The entire lab was buzzing with energy, excitement, and competitive spirit as participants navigated through each challenge with focus, determination, and creative strategies.
The event culminated in a prize announcement ceremony led by Dr. R. Indhumathi (Assistant Professor), who acknowledged the efforts of all the participants and appreciated the sheer ingenuity and determination displayed throughout the event. The winners were celebrated for their exceptional skills and presence of mind, while all participants were applauded for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
A heartfelt vote of thanks was extended to Dr. Ushus Mam, all the faculty coordinators, the college committee, the volunteers, and every participant whose contribution made the event a grand success. The tireless efforts of the BIO-NEXUS Club members were especially
commendable, as their planning, coordination, and execution ensured the smooth flow and interactive nature of the event. Maze Solver was more than just a fun competition—it was a platform that promoted teamwork, lateral thinking, and mental agility in an engaging and innovative format. The overwhelming response and positive feedback have set the stage for more such thought-provoking and enjoyable events in the future, reinforcing the club’s commitment to holistic student development.
