Dr. G. Geetha, an energetic academician, a vibrant researcher and a dynamic administrator had 20+ years of experience. She is a recognised supervisor with 45 publications in IEEE, Scopus and SCI journals and 8 PHD scholars awarded with her guidance and received two patent grants.

She has received funds from MHRD, AICTE and IE India. She has organised various workshops, seminars, guest lectures, FDP’s and conferences in current trends. She had various administrative positions such as Head of Department, Head of IPR Cell and Dean Innovation

To add feather to her cap, she is a trained scientist by Indian patent office, Chennai under Kiran IPR Women Scientist C Scheme. She has also done Patent related courses in NPTEL and WIPO PCT Distance learning courses. Around 3000+ students, 400+ Faculties, 15+ institutions have got benefitted from her guidance in filing a patent. She has conducted 50+ seminars, 10FDP’s, 5 Workshops in Intellectual property rights.

Dr. G. Geetha is a happy, cheerful person who spreads love and gives confidence to everyonearound her.

Department of IT Project Club Organizes the ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON IPR AND PATENT ESSENTIALS

The event commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Ms. Priyadharshini, who set the tone for the day and introduced our Project Club. The spotlight then shifted to Dr. G. Geetha, who conducted an insightful workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and the essentials of patenting. This session was meticulously crafted to provide a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of patents, catering especially to beginners. Dr. Geetha initiated the workshop by delving into the fundamental question of “what constitutes an invention” and the nuances involved in claiming a patent. She explained the different types of patents, each associated with various fields of invention, thereby clarifying the objectives behind specific inventions. To enhance understanding, she shared real-time examples, elucidating the practical applications and purposes of patents. Dr. G.Geetha emphasized the efficiency and effectiveness of a patent, highlighting the essential criteria required to secure one. This included a detailed discussion on the duration of a patent and the processes involved in upgrading the product during the patent period.

The workshop further explored the concept of uniqueness in products, stressing its importance in the patenting process. Dr. G.Geetha provided an overview of the different types of patent applications, distinguishing between provisional and non-provisional patents. This included a brief on ordinary applications, convention applications, and an in-depth explanation of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application.

Additionally, participants gained insights into the total cost associated with obtaining a patent for a product. The session also covered the flow of the patent receipt format and the hearing process, ensuring a thorough understanding of the patent journey from application to approval. Overall, this workshop served as a valuable resource for beginners, offering a solid foundation in the intricacies of patent forms and the patent path to be followed. It encouraged participants to innovate while building on past patents, providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge to forge ahead in their inventive endeavors.
