Report on Guest Lecture – IoT and its applications in Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Organised a Guest Lecture on “IoT and its applications in Electrical Engineering” on 14th October 2022 from 10 A.M. to 11.30 A.M. Around 100 students of I, II & III year EEE attended the programme.
The faculty coordinators, Dr.T.Jeya Shree and Mr.K.Arulvendhan, conveyed their sincere thanks to the management of SRMIST Ramapuram, Director, Dean and the Head of the Departmentfor giving the opportunity to conduct this event. Dr.T.Jeya Shree, Assistant Professor, EEE department welcomed the gathering. The resource persons for this event wereMr.Anand DA, Territory technical Head, IPCS Global Automation, Chennai and Mr.P.Ramachandran, Senior Embedded Engineer, IPCS Global Automation, Chennai
The session was taken over by Mr.Anand DA. The session commenced with a brief introduction on IoT and IIoT. The Guest Speaker explained the state of art for IOT. He spoke about the challenges and issues involved in IOT. The lecture focused on the areas like Mobile Sensors, Computer Networks and Information Security. He updated the audience about the developments that are taking place in India, especially in Tamilnadu that aim to improve electricity grid through IoT. He has shown the working various sensors and controllers. The working model was then circulated to the students for their better understanding.
Later the session was handled by Mr.P.Ramachandran, Senior Embedded Engineer, IPCS Global Automation, Chennai. His presentation started off with a demo on prototype of a home automation system. IOT and its implementation on a wide range of technical aspects were discussed. Further an introduction to the embedded system was given followed by which an interactive session over the latest advancements in embedded technology took place. The presentation was concluded by stating the current industrial scenario where skilled and trained engineers are preferably hired.
The event culminated with a Q/A session, where the speaker cleared the doubts of the students. Speakers conveyed their sincere thanks to the management and the Head of the Department for providing the opportunities.
Concluding speech was given by Dr.K.N.Srinivas (HOD/EEE) which kindled and motivated the students to think more about the future of Electrical Engineering. He appreciated faculty members and students for the successful conduction of the lecture.
