Department of civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, ,Ramapuram conducted an international guest lecture “Why do Buildings fail and Can We Help it?”on28.02.2024 at 2:00 PM. Professor CHINWUBA ARUM, Department of Civil and Mining Engineering, University of Namibia presented the expert lecture on the topic.
This event was conducted for the benefit of UG, PG students, research scholars and industry professionals.

The participants were assembled in Gallery Hall-3 to attend the guest lecture through a projected screen.
About the Speaker:
Professor Chinwuba Ned Arum hails from Nigeria.
A Professor of Civil/Structural Engineering with post-doctoral experience of over 30 years in the construction industry and the University. He has teaching and research links with a number of Nigerian and foreign Universities
He is a specialist in Structural Engineering with research interests in Sustainable Cement Products, Alternative Cost-effective Construction Materials, and Decarbonization of Buildings.
Professor Arum is well-published with over 80 published articles in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
About the Event:
The event started with the welcome address by Professor Dr.T.Ch.Madhavi mam.
HoD I/C Mr. Senthilvelan gave a brief introduction to the speaker Professor CHINWUBA ARUM.
This was followed by a vivid presentation by Professor CHINWUBA ARUM. The presentation encompassed a detailed description on the types of building failures caused due to natural disaster, constructional flaws and improper design specifications. The presenter explained the failures with the case studies and relevant images which made the session very lively and informative.
This presentation was followed by Q&A session. Students showed much interest to know about the design specifications followed in Nigeria, which was suitably answered by the speaker. Altogether the technical session was well appreciated and much receptive among the participants.
