Introduction
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram Campus, successfully organized the 2025 Second International Conference on Emerging Trends in Electrical Machines, Power, and Energy Systems (EMPOWER 25) on the 25th and 26th of February, 2025, in hybrid mode. There were online paper presentation and on-campus technical talks. The conference served as a platform for bringing together researchers, academics, industry experts, and students to discuss and share advancements in electrical engineering and the related fields forming inter-disciplinary academics / research.
Objectives
The event focused on cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence applications, renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, robotics, smart grid technologies, and more. The primary objective of this gathering was to foster collaboration, spark innovative ideas, and address challenges in the evolving landscape of energy systems and electrical machines.
With participants hailing from diverse backgrounds and institutions, the conference witnessed a vibrant exchange of knowledge through keynote sessions and paper presentations.
The first EMPOWER 2024 had a focus theme of Industry 4.0 and the research papers discussed in EMPOWER 2024 were mostly into these areas.
The Second EMPOWER 2025 had IoT and Automation as its focal theme and most of the papers presented were addressing the new research aspects of this technology for electrical engineering.
Inauguration of EMPOWER 2025 Second Internaional Conference
This conference was a remarkable gathering of global intellectuals and researchers, showcasing innovation and scholarly excellence. Out of an impressive 150 submissions, 86 high-quality papers were meticulously selected for presentation, reflecting the rigorous standards of the review process. The event offered 12 diverse presentation tracks, each led by a distinguished panel of experts from around the world, contributing to a rich multidisciplinary dialogue.
The conference was graced by two eminent speakers on the inaugural day. They offered the keynode speech on the inauguration of the conference EMPOWER 2025. Mr. WONG Yi Jie, Research Fellow from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia and Dr. Arunachalam Sundaram, Lecturer and Lead Coordinator from the University of Salford, Manchester, UK were the inaugural day keynote speakers, whose keynote addresses provided invaluable insights on their respective fields of research and inspired the attendees. Mr. WONG Yi Jie focussed on the research in IoT applied to electrical engineering. Dr S Arunahcalam spoke on the research advancements in smart grid and microgrid. Additionally, the esteemed Dr. Mau Luen Tham, also from UTAR, contributed as one of the panel members, further emphasizing the global representation and collaborative spirit of the event.
Such a prestigious platform not only highlighted groundbreaking research but also fostered connections among academics, practitioners, and thought leaders across various domains. It must have been an incredible opportunity for learning, networking, and advancing knowledge.
The 2025 Second International Conference on Emerging Trends in Electrical Machines, Power, and Energy Systems (EMPOWER 2025) was successfully held under the aegis of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Ramapuram, Chennai. The conference exemplified innovation and collaboration in addressing contemporary challenges in the field of Electrical Engineering.
About EMPOWER 2025 – by the Co-Convener Dr S Saravanan
The inauguration of EMPOWER 2025 was presided over by Dr. N. Sethuraman, Chief Director of SRM Group of Institutions, Chennai Ramapuram & Trichy, whose inspiring vision for the field set the stage for the conference. Dr. M. Sakthi Ganesh, Dean (E&T) at SRMIST Ramapuram, felicitated the gathering, reflecting his commitment to fostering academic growth and innovation. The Convener, Dr. K. N. Srinivas, Professor & Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, warmly welcomed the dignitaries and attendees and established the collaborative tone of the event.
The Chief Director addressed the gathering, offering insights and encouragement to the participants and organizers. Dr. S. Saravanan, Assistant Professor and Co-convener of the conference, elaborated on the theme and purpose of EMPOWER 2025, highlighting its goals to provide a platform for emerging research and technological advancements. Additionally, Dr. M. Sakthi Ganesh delivered a felicitation address, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in pushing the boundaries of knowledge and practice in the field.
Address by the Dean (E&T)
A significant moment of the conference was the official release of the conference proceedings. This marked a culmination of meticulous research and collaboration, compiling innovative ideas, papers, and discussions presented during the event. The release symbolized the collective efforts of the organizing team and participants, setting a benchmark for future conferences. Dr K N Srinivas explained to the online gathering on the formatting of the proceedings by turning page-by-page till the start of the first paper, which included the acknowledgements, messages from the patrons, introduction of the foreign speakers and the keynote speaker, one-page write-up of the SRM IST Ramapuram, one-page write-up of the department of EEE, SRM IST Ramapuram, a catalogue of the highlights of the EEE department, the academicians invloned in reviewing the 86 papers, judges of the 12 tracks, and the content page of the list of 86 papers. EMPOWER 2025 was technically sponsored by the Scopus indexed international journal IJSISE, which was acknowledged during the proceeding introduction. The procedding was released by its ISBN number.
