SUMMARY OF THE EVENT
The Department of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRM IST, Ramapuram organized an insightful webinar titled “Innovations in Regenerative Medicine” on 14 November 2025, from 06:30 PM to 07:30 PM through an online platform. Dr. Ushus S Kumar, Head of the Department, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of embracing innovation and creativity in modern healthcare systems.
The guest speaker, Dr. P. Raghu Babu, Technical Director at Acadicell Innovations International Pvt Ltd offered a comprehensive overview of modern therapeutic approaches, emerging advancements in tissue engineering, stem cell therapies, biomaterials, and clinical translation. The session began with an overview of the current challenges in regenerative medicine, followed by detailed explanations of cutting-edge technologies such as 3D bioprinting, induced pluripotent stem cells, and bioengineered scaffolds. He explained how Mesenchymal Stem Cells are being explored for musculoskeletal repair, immunomodulation, and chronic disease management, while Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy continues to evolve as a minimally invasive regenerative option. The session also highlighted the development of allogeneic wound patches as an emerging solution for accelerated tissue healing
Dr. Karolinekersin E, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the event, introduced the guest speaker and Dr. Pushpa B, Assistant Professor and Co-Convener, coordinated the session smoothly. BME students engaged actively through a Q&A session that clarified ethical considerations, regulatory pathways, and future opportunities for researchers and clinicians. The webinar concluded with discussions on how these scientific and legal frameworks intersect to shape the future of biomedical research and healthcare technology. The session concluded with a vote of thanks acknowledging the support of the Dean (E&T), HoD, faculty members, and participants.
