The Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Department of Chemistry at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Ramapuram, Chennai, is organizing an Industry Expert Talk on the topic “Chemistry Behind Stronger Steel.” The session is designed to provide students with an understanding of the chemical principles and industrial processes involved in the production and enhancement of high-strength steel.
The expert talk will explore the role of chemistry in steel manufacturing, explaining how the composition of alloying elements, heat treatment processes, and metallurgical techniques influence the strength, durability, toughness, and corrosion resistance of steel. Participants will gain insights into the relationship between chemical composition and the mechanical properties of steel used in engineering and industrial applications.
The session will also highlight modern steel production technologies, quality control methods, and the importance of material selection in various sectors such as construction, automotive, infrastructure, and manufacturing. The speaker will share practical industrial experiences, helping students understand how chemistry is applied to solve real-world engineering challenges.
The event is scheduled to be held on 24 March 2026 (Tuesday) at 10:00 AM in Gallery Hall, Block V. The program is intended for First Year B.Tech students.
The resource person for the session is Mr. M. Azhaguvelan Mathan, who serves as the Senior Technical Manager at Viki Industries Private Limited, Chennai. With extensive industrial experience, he will provide valuable insights into steel manufacturing processes, material science, and the industrial applications of chemistry.
