The Department of Physics, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, successfully organized a Guest Lecture on “Machine Learning for Intelligent Gas Sensing” on 25 August 2026 through the Zoom platform. The lecture focused on the application of machine learning techniques in intelligent gas sensing, highlighting recent advancements, data-driven approaches, and their potential applications in sensor technology. The event provided an excellent platform for academicians, researchers, faculty members, research scholars, and students to gain insights into emerging developments in machine learning-assisted gas sensing and to explore its significance in advanced sensing technologies.
The lecture commenced with an introduction to SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), delivered by Dr. Sanju Rani, Associate Professor, highlighting the institution’s academic and research contributions. This was followed by the Welcome Address by Dr. N. Balamurugan, Associate Professor and HoD (i/c). Subsequently, Dr. A. R. Baby Suganthi, Assistant Professor (OG), introduced the invited speaker.

Dr. Anwesha Mukherjee, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Madras, delivered an insightful lecture on “Machine Learning for Intelligent Gas Sensing.” The session covered the working principles, applications, and limitations of gas sensors and discussed how AI and ML techniques can improve sensitivity, selectivity, and response variations, enabling the development of intelligent gas-sensing systems.
