Mr. V. Duraikannan emphasized the connection between grooming and mental well-being and promoted grooming as self-care to boost self-esteem, reduce stress, and improve mood, offering practical strategies and expert insights tailored to individual needs. He explained the impact of social media on grooming and mental health which will explore the social media has profoundly impacted the way we approach grooming and mental health. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook perpetuate unrealistic beauty standards, fostering a culture of comparison and competition. The constant exposure to curated and manipulated images can lead to negative self-comparison, decreased self- esteem, and even body dysmorphic disorders. Furthermore, the pressure to present a perfect online persona can exacerbate anxiety and stress, as individuals feel compelled to conceal their imperfections and flaws. Conversely, social media can also serve as a platform for self-expression, empowerment, and community-building, providing a space for individuals to share their grooming routines, mental health struggles, and self-care practices.
Additionally he explained how practicing self-care and self-compassion is essential for maintaining good mental health and well-being. Self-care involves intentionally taking care of one’s physical, emotional, and mental needs, such as getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and engaging in activities that bring joy and relaxation. Self-compassion, on the other hand, involves treating oneself with kindness, understanding, and acceptance, especially during difficult times. By prioritizing self- care and self-compassion, individuals can develop a more positive and loving relationship with themselves, build resilience against stress and adversity, and cultivate a greater sense of overall well- being. The goal was to highlight grooming’s benefits beyond physical appearance, focusing on mental health and overall well-being.
