The DCD Club of ECE Department, SRM University, Ramapuram Campus, was founded on 18th March 2016 by a group of II Year BTech students, under the guidance of Mr. G.Vinoth Kumar Asst.Prof., ECE Department. Our goal is to introduce students to the diversity of branches within the engineering field and help them develop knowledge through events, seminars, presentations and other planned activities. The purpose is also to provide students a platform to showcase their ideas and innovations to a larger audience.
During the academic year of 2016-2017, DCD Club conducted their first classroom event “TECH-WRECK” on 23rd July, 2016. The first event was attended by students of II Year. It was an event comprising three rounds, namely, 1. Objective Overload, 2. Boolean Buster, 3. Touch of Childhood and 4. Contest for Conquest. While the first three rounds were technical multiple choice questions, the event ended with a Treasure Hunt, twisted with technical clues. As the participants swarmed into various rooms trying to find answers, the event received positive reviews from the students and faculty.
The second event “ELECTRONOMOUS” was held on 4th February, 2017 in the same academic year. The layout for this event was changed and five technical rounds were conducted for the participating teams. These rounds aimed at examining their basic technical knowledge through written and visual rounds. The last stage, namely, Geek Hunt, was a brainstorming visual round to inspect the presence of their minds under the bondage of a certain time limit. The event was appreciated by the attendees and faculty.
The club went further and conducted “PROJECT DAY” on 25th February, 2017, thereby expanding its platform. The event was attended by Chief Guests Dr. B.Venkatachalapathy and Prof.Radhakrishan from R&D Group. The club saw its highest turnover of participants as students of I, II and III years competed among their respective batch mates. The focus of this event was to display working projects and prototypes built by the students of the department. It was a fine show of technical ideas, as the student’s blend their theoretical knowledge of engineering subjects with the problems faced in the practical world and tried to find a solution for the society. The event was concluded by handing over certificates, trophies and cash prizes to winners of respective years.
The academic year of 2016-2017 ended with a Seminar on “HOME AUTOMATION” conducted by one of the committee members. Along with the explanation of terminologies related to the topic, there was also display of a project. This Seminar was attended by most of the I and II Year students. The seminar turned out to be a successful interactive session, thereby fulfilling the purpose of the club.
The plans to continue working on its motto for the upcoming academic years with the same interest and motivation, thereby trying to retain the quality of its work as before.
