The BIO-NEXUS Non-Technical Club of the Biomedical Engineering Department organized a creative and thought-provoking event titled “Reel to Real: A Cinematic Overview of College Life” on [insert date]. This unique collage-making competition aimed to explore the stark contrast between how movies and television shows portray college life versus the reality experienced by students. The event provided an opportunity for students to critically analyze and visually represent the differences between cinematic fiction and real-life academia.
Event Overview
The event, coordinated by S.K Karventhan (3rd Year, RA2211013020010) and Ashwini R (2nd Year, RA2311013020031), was a resounding success, drawing enthusiastic participation from students across different years. It served as a platform for students to creatively express their perceptions of college life by juxtaposing the often glamorous and exaggerated depictions seen in media against the real challenges and triumphs of academic life. Participants were encouraged to use their artistic abilities to craft collages that depicted various aspects of college life as portrayed in films and contrast them with their own experiences. The event aimed to highlight how media shapes students’ expectations before they even step onto campus, often presenting unrealistic visions of academic ease, instant friendships, and drama filled romance. In reality, college involves rigorous academics, personal growth, evolving friendships, and career-related uncertainties, which were effectively captured through the students’ artwork.
